BULA kava fans! Hope you all enjoy watching this vid as much as we all did putting it together. As I grew up with the growing mainland U.S. kava culture over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of introducing a many people to my favorite root. It can be difficult getting into it, and I’d bet a lot of that is because some of the context is difficult to translate into the cultures where it is imported. I say this with some reservation since I admit the most kava ingrained culture I’ve ever experienced is South Florida 🙂
Kava. This stuff is great. Some have found it useful as medicine. Some drink it in place of alcohol, tobacco, or other vices they would rather avoid. There is more to it though. I want to look at what kava represents intrinsically.
I put together a this little project to really try and convey the whole package. It’s sitting back, letting those eyes hang low, and listening to the subtle sounds of lovely contentment.
The bowl, the shells, the friends, the environment all contribute good vibes to the session. Its a much more powerful feeling with others around to share it. Krunk beget krunk.

Hello Kavasseurs! I had the wonderful opportunity to hang with the Conestoga Funktiersman, one of my good buds who grew up here in Baltimore MD. Both the Funktiersman and myself make our livings as a professionals in the manufacturing sector by day, and spend the rest of our time in endless and noble pursuit of good laughs and cool vibes.
For a stubborn luddite like myself, this blog thing is just so hard to kick off because when I review raw material, I fear the content isn’t rich enough. The whole session starts to feel like a “Had to be there” story. Then I try to trim down the fat, but the chopped up product loses some of the tone and character from the original kava session, the added work of editing notwithstanding. Time for a different approach.
This is it. Just two people, sitting around the kava bowl, simultaneously creating and capturing that beautiful, contempt, harmonius kava atmosphere. I make no claims of having anything interesting to say, and no apologies for it either.
I invite all to pour a shell and try to follow this babbling stream of consiousness into the mix:
Discussion fueled by this wonderful root
(left: Señor Chuggs; right: Conestoga Funktiersman) This is a different evening when we were “in the mix” playing with the turntables. It illustrates the point that kava isn’t the only component at play here… cocktails and handlebar moustaches also function as vibe delivery vehicles.
I hope this vid finds you all well. I’m Señor Chuggs, covering for the real Kavasseur for the next few months while he’s out and about. I want to use this post as a starting off point for taking the Kavasseur blog in a new kinda direction. Of course, we’re still going to be talking about our favorite root beverage, but I’m not going to be doing kava reviews strictly. I want to explore kava’s purpose and value in my own life, and allow the root to guide the ongoing discussion. I want to talk about my own kava rituals and see how they relate to others!
Like I say, more content to come. I just have to get a handle on this blog stuff. I got some nuggets of discussion between myself and the Kavasseur I will be throwing up on the site here as soon as I can mine through all the hours of krunked “umms” and “uuhhhs”.
